How to Play Checkers

Rules

• You are Red and move first. Pieces move diagonally forward one square onto an empty dark square.
• Capture by jumping over an adjacent enemy piece to the empty square beyond. Jumps are mandatory.
• If your piece can keep jumping after a capture, it must continue — multi-jumps happen automatically.
• Reaching the far row crowns your piece into a king, which moves and captures in all four diagonal directions.
• You win when the opponent has no pieces left or no legal move. 40 quiet moves end the game as a draw.

Strategy Tips

• Keep your back row intact early — it stops enemy kings and promotions.
• Control the center; edge pieces have fewer options.
• Trade when you are ahead in material.
• Watch for two-for-one shots: a move that lets the enemy jump twice.
